Gmail adds new features

  • Google has just updated Gmail to include some new features that I find quite useful. Their "What's New" page explains the changes in more detail.

In an effort to make it easier to manage messages, you will now find a dropdown menu at the top right corner of any message that gives you options to reply, forward, delete, report phishing, etc. The reply button for me complains about an unresponsive script when using Firefox 2.0.

The most useful update to the service is a popup that appears when a conversation thread changes (someone sends a message that belongs in the conversation) while you are reading it. The popup asks if you want to update the page to show the new messages — previously you would have been oblivious to anything that happened in the conversation until you send a message or refresh the page.

Philipp and Ionut Alex. Chitu have their own commentary on the new changes.
